CONTRIBUTIONS

Timetable Loans

The website and database for Timetable World are now complete and we urgently need timetable contributions from private collectors, archivists and the like to grow the collection. We don't buy the originals. Instead, we ask timetable-holders to loan their collections for professional scanning on the understanding that the results will then be free to users.

Sponsorship and Donations

Timetable World is free-to-use but not free-to-provide. Our biggest expense is book-scanning, which is typically around USD60/EUR60/GBP50 for a 500-page book. Donations and sponsorship will make a big difference to how quickly we can build up the collection. Please don't be offended if we ask!

Data Corrections

If you discover errors in Timetable World, please let us know. We'll correct those that we can, but that doesn't include errors on Google Maps or in the original timetables.

Links, Articles, Books

Interesting and relevant websites can be added into our Links menu.
Later in 2009, we hope to add a section of articles, written by users, and a bibliography of current and out-of-print books.

Comments and Suggestions

Let us know what you like and dislike about the site, and what you find useful. And we welcome any suggestions for future enhancements.

ADVERTISING on Timetable World

Timetable World costs money to run and to be expanded, mainly hosting expenses and book-scanning services. We will run relevant advertising to help defray the costs, and seek sponsorship and other donations.

CONTRIBUTING to Timetable World

Timetable Loans

Whether you are a serious, long-term timetable collector, or just have a few old books, we'd love to hear from you. Getting your timetables scanned, indexed and co-mingled with other on-line timetables is a great way to preserve and get more use from these delicate items and help others share in the contents. If you're an archivist, Timetable World offers a solid way to improve access without undue impact on the originals.

  1. To begin with, please contact us at contact@timetableworld.com and provide a few basic details of the items you can offer.
    That means:
    • Publisher or Transport Undertaking
    • Validity period
    • Condition of the item
    • Country and Language
    • Number of pages (approximately) and any pull-out maps
    • Estimated value (only necessary for higher-value individual items over USD50).

  2. Our considerations when deciding which items to proceed with, and when, are:
    • Rarity and historical value
    • The likely interest to Timetable World users
    • How different from, or complementary to, the rest of the collection
    • For items still in copyright, whether we are able to obtain a reproduction license
    • The condition of the item
    • The backlog of scanning and indexing work already committed
    • Availability of funding.

  3. Books can be sponsored. All contributions (sponsored or otherwise) are credited (unless you wish to remain anonymous), but full-sponsors will be credited first and get a CD\DVD containing the full-definition scans.

  4. We will contact you with a scanning proposal. This comprises:
    • The item(s) we propose to scan
    • A schedule of work that we have discussed with the scanning company. Normally a single batch, but large collections may best be handled in several batches over a period of time. Normal turnaround for scanning is 14-28 days
    • Address details of where to send the books
    • Any special considerations arising from the value or fragility of the item
    • The scanning costs, should you wish to sponsor one or more items. Don't feel obliged to sponsor - we'd rather gain access to rare materials - but nor do we have unlimited funds.

  5. If the proposal is acceptable to you, please send the items for scanning as per the schedule. We'll return the originals as soon as possible.

  6. Indexing is a subsequent process, central to the purpose and success of Timetable World. We'll release new items once a minimum-level of indexing has been completed and checked, but can make no guarantees about timings.
