One of six regions of British Railways, the Eastern Region covered the main lines from London King’s Cross to Doncaster, Marylebone to Sheffield, Liverpool Street to King’s Lynn and Norwich, and numerous branches. Early electrification of the suburban lines in Essex contrasted with steam engines being used universally elsewhere.
