Description
The 25th edition (May 1996) of Barry S. Doe’s Directory of Bus Timetables & Enquiry Offices is an expanded, 44-page UK and Ireland timetable reference (over 300 entries, 13% growth; cover price £5). It lists council/PTE timetables, principal operators, enquiry lines, system and local maps, publication dates, prices, postage and ordering guidance. The preface criticises local government reorganisation for fragmenting transport, reports format changes and 24-hour clock adoption (about 78% of operators, 87% of councils), and names timetable winners (Derbyshire and Hereford & Worcester councils; Western National). Editor’s quality criteria—conventional formats showing intermediate times, 24-hour clock, indexes, maps, dated/updated issues—are provided. The directory, in a Timetable4World style, covers England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, and includes PTE and London Transport information. Entries give operator contacts, fleet names, timetable availability, formats, issue dates and prices, note map/index provision, and cover diverse service types. Commercial notices promote publishers, printers, marketing suppliers and timetabling software.
