Description
This sixth-draft Code of Good Practice (Jan 2001), produced by ATCO with CPT, ATOC, DPTAC and LTUC, guides local authorities in preparing printed public transport information for Local Transport Plans. It covers timetables, leaflets, booklets and maps, stressing availability at key locations and a single area publication listing local services (including taxis, community transport and dial‑a‑ride). New timetables should be published at least seven days before changes and advertised via newspapers, stop displays or on vehicles. Design standards recommend clear sans‑serif type (preferably 12pt, minimum 8pt), adequate leading, high‑quality non‑reflective paper, strong contrast colours, and avoidance of heavy backgrounds. Timetable layout rules include prominent route numbers/headings, consistent operator contact details, use of maps for routing, clear presentation of days of operation, adoption of 24‑hour clock, agreed timing points shown down the left, minimal and consistent codes, and accessibility provisions (large print, alternative formats, TRIPSCOPE). Publications should show issue and end dates, seasonal and school variations, and how to obtain updates.
