Description
The Victoria Test Corridor quantitative study (London Buses, July 1993) used face‑to‑face interviews (475 pre‑installation, 460 post‑installation; pre: 26 May–5 June; post: 18–25 June) to evaluate new bus information. Overall, users reported substantial improvements in both quantity and quality of information across locations (Victoria Bus Station, Victoria BR, Underground, shelters, and stops). Victoria Coach Station showed the greatest shortfall pre‑installation. New materials—timetable redesigns, posters, route maps, revised flags, ‘E’ plates and a fare‑zone marker—outperformed previous designs on clarity, readability, appeal and usefulness; timetable and poster gains were strongest for infrequent users, while nightbus material remained of limited relevance. Awareness of changes was highest among heavier users; many suggested few further improvements post‑installation. The new information increased perceived reliability and positively changed LBL’s image. Around a quarter of respondents (notably light/medium users) said they might use buses more as a result. The research supports wider roll‑out of the new information.
