Description
This document defines TfL’s Line Diagram Standards (Issue 4) for consistent passenger information. Key rules cover typography (Johnston 100 Medium, mixed case) and precise colour specifications for modes and each London Underground and Overground line using Pantone, CMYK, RGB and NCS where applicable. Diagram geometry is governed by the station name “x” height, which equals route line thickness and determines spacing, station ticks, and flag/box dimensions. Lines change direction only at 45° or 90°, with adjacent curves using a 3x inner radius; out-of-use sections, arrowheads for off‑map continuations, and line-termination/tabs are standardised. Interchange circles are black with clear centres; multiple-platform interchanges, bridging/dumbbell treatments, and precise spacing are prescribed. Flag boxes (ordered: Underground, other TfL modes, National Rail) use line colours and appropriate logos/pictograms; placement rules require station names above and boxes below interchange circles. Vertical platform diagrams have separate sizing rules (cap heights, box depths, alignment). For unresolved cases, contact the TfL Graphics team
