Description

This UIC Code (10th ed., Jan 2008) establishes unified standards to improve rail accessibility, information, comfort, safety and service—with particular focus on People with Reduced Mobility (PRM). Applying to carriers and passenger terminal managers and aligned with EU directives and the PRM TSI, it specifies station requirements (clear external identification, accessible approaches and parking, lifts/escalators, lighting, signage, maps, multilingual information desks, PA systems, cleanliness, security and facilities for customs, medical and disabled assistance). For trains it mandates consistent exterior/interior information, accessibility pictograms, courteous multilingual staff, minimized intrusive inspections, onboard PA announcements, timetable leaflets, dining and cleaning standards, and currency acceptance on international services.
