Description
The RATP bulletin reviews Paris bus information, diagnosing abundant but fragmented and poorly presented information that leaves the network less known and harder to use than the Metro. It argues for a coherent “information chain” whose functions are to attract riders, inform clearly, reassure passengers during journeys, and build loyalty. Measures already taken include major publicity campaigns (1975), distribution of the Paris Bus pocket map and guide, targeted folders, and a telephone information centre handling many bus queries. Outside-home information improvements include large public maps, prototype route maps tested in shelters, mobile information buses and planned info offices. At stops, the “thermometer” route plans and expanded panels offer rich detail but create clutter, prompting redesign toward a single lit post combining route, neighborhood and network maps, schedules and fares. Shelters and interchanges will receive better, standardized displays. Onboard, enhanced route plans, amplified announcements, clearer exterior displays and leaflet racks are planned. The Board concludes that higher-quality, coherent presentation—requiring investment—is essential to raise public awareness and ridership.
