Description

TfL Interchange Signs Standard Issue 5 sets mandatory guidance for consistent, legible signage across London interchange stations where multiple networks converge. It defines sign types (totems, horizontal fascias, building, pole and cantilevered signs), core symbols, pictograms, logo order and sizing, spacing, and monochrome/reduced alternatives for constrained or colour-limited contexts. Totem and horizontal layout rules govern placement, ordering by customer usage, symbol proportions and secondary information placement to avoid confusion. Network-identification rules specify when to use roundels, pictograms or names for Underground, National Rail, DLR, Overground, buses, trams, coaches, river services, taxis and cycling. Wayfinding principles require logical information progression through ticket halls, decision points and platforms, clear lift and accessible routes, platform finders and confirmation signs, and integration with Legible London maps. Exit guides, bus-signing headers, line-diagram conventions, viewing distances, minimum letter sizes, sightlines and modular layouts are covered. The standard references related documents and provides a TfL Corporate Design contact for queries.
