Description
This study evaluates the usability of Transjakarta’s bus route map to inform improvements in public transport information design. Recognizing route maps as primary wayfinding tools, the authors conducted a two-part investigation: a map-reading experiment and follow-up interviews. In the experiment participants compared two Transjakarta-based map designs by locating specific stops and routes while search time was recorded. Interviews explored user preferences for easily understood design elements. Results indicate that route-line attributes—especially route number, the visual form of the line, and above all line colour—directly influence passenger decisions and how users read maps. Route-line colour had the most significant effect on wayfinding success. The paper concludes that optimizing how route lines are drawn, numbered, and colour-coded is critical to improving map legibility and supporting passenger navigation in Jakarta’s bus network.
