Description

This July 2003 Nottinghamshire strategy sets minimum standards and improvements for local bus information to meet national policy (1998 White Paper, Transport Act 2000) and Disability Discrimination Act obligations, and to align with national systems (Transport Direct, Traveline, TransXchange, NaPTAN). It covers printed, roadside, electronic and face-to-face information (excluding some specialist services), defining enforceable “required information” such as free service-specific timetables in accessible formats, on-board availability, standardised stop flags with NaPTAN refs, timetable cases with stop-level details, Traveline and web links, and bus station displays. Priorities are comprehensive roadside timetables, leaflets, telephone/internet journey planning; then fares/stop-level info; then RTPI, on-bus info and area booklets. Operators bear primary responsibility; the County will supply or fund missing information and may reclaim costs. Actions include a stop-by-stop inventory, Stationmaster database improvements, electronic registrations, accessible formats, web/remote terminals, RTPI reviews, annual monitoring and a five-year review. Funding partly from the Local Transport Plan (~£1m/year over five years) with targets to raise satisfaction and achieve full stop coverage.
